About Dear Dolores® Hydrangea

The Dear Dolores Hydrangea is a deciduous/semi-evergreen plant and will go dormant during the winter months. When this plant is ordered during the Fall/Winter expect seasonal foliage decline(discoloration, spots, leaf drop) or the plant to arrive completely dormant.

For an extra 10% off your order of deciduous plants use coupon code: DormantPlant2021

What to do when a dormant plant arrives:

  1. Unpackage on arrival and water
  2. Your plant will be ready to be planted in the landscape or in a container on arrival, or if you wish you can keep your new plant in its container until spring that is ok too
    • If planting in the landscape
      • Consider using a root stimulating fertilizer to get your plant working hard establishing its root system during the winter months
      • Use a heavy Layer of mulch to protect the unestablished roots from frost
  3. Dormant plants do require some watering: once a week should be sufficient
  4. When Spring arrives and your plant begins showing signs of new growth increase your watering schedule to 2 times every 7 to ten days until established, then water as needed. Apply a slow-release granular fertilizer to give your plant a great start

The Dear Dolores Hydrangea from the Southern Living Plant Collection is a tremendous and versatile plant that will provide beautiful mop-head blooms from spring into fall. As is typical with hydrangeas, these flowers emerge pink when planted in alkaline soils and blue whilst grown in acidic soils. Dear Dolores is fast-growing and traditionally will reach 5′ tall as well as wide. These long-lived Hydrangeas will return to impress for 20 years or so, exhibiting multitudes of eye-popping blooms every year that will delight and amaze. The Dear Dolores makes a phenomenally stunning addition to any landscape, whether as a shady border planting, an accent, or in a mass planting.

I had never bought from plants by mail before but when I received the hydrangea it is in remarkable condition! It has 12 blooms on it and not one broken stem. I will certainly order again.

I ordered this for my mom (who’s name is Dolores!) for Mother’s Day. She cried when she opened the box..gorgeous blue blooms were already on the plant and it was packed so perfectly, not a stem was bent and every petal was intact. I would order again in a heart beat!
Thank you for making a most discerning customer extremely happy!

have ordered several times from I’ve been so happy with the plants I have rec’d. The quality of my Dear Dolores Hydrangea is just fantastic. I ordered two of them. They are healthy, packed well, and were moist when I unwrapped them today. I am so looking forward to getting them planted tomorrow. This is April 2020, and I am sure I will be ordering from them again. Wish I could attach a picture to show the quality of these plants. I ordered them on April 12th 2020 and rec’d them on April 20th 2020. Well done Plants By Mail !! Well done!

Just fabulous! I ordered two Dear Dolores in April, and they arrived in beautiful condition and with several flowers. They’ve been blooming ever since, and it’s now August. Love them.
