Looking to add some color to your fall season? Then look no further than the Kanjiro Camellia! This selection produces semi-double, red-pink blooms with gold centers. Additionally, the Kanjiro is a notably prolific bloomer that is known for putting on a huge flower display. Expect these blossoms to start opening from Fall to early Winter.
The Kanjiro Camellia features reliably evergreen, dark green foliage that proves to be consistently dense all year long. Its leaves are rigid, glossy and serrated, attractive in their own right. Furthermore, this foliage provides the perfect backdrop for the bright pink blossoms.
This pink blooming camellia reaches a maximum height of 8-10′ H x 8-10′ W. However, it can be trimmed yearly to keep it a desired size.
Use the Kanjiro Camellia as a privacy screen, hedge, specimen, windbreak, sound dampener, or even a container.
Once established, this is a water-wise variety.
Hardy from USDA Zones 7-10, down to 0°F when fully established.
Prefers Part Sun. Provide 3-4 hours of direct sun or all-day filtered sun to promote maximum bloom and foliage potential.
During the first growing season, water the Kanjiro Camellia 2-3 times per week. Reduce watering to 1-2 times per week in the second growing season. Afterwards, this camellia only needs water in times of drought.
Plant in rich, acidic soil with good drainage. Apply a few inches of composted manure around the base of your plant yearly to keep your soil rich and healthy. In addition, add 2-3 inches of mulch around your plant yearly as well to keep the roots protected from extreme temperatures.
Fertilize with an acidic plant fertilizer every few months during the growing season while the plant is young to encourage maximum growth. Once your Kanjiro Camellia has matured, a light yearly fertilizer application will keep it happy and healthy.
For a seamless planting, plant your Kanjiro Camellia 6-7 feet apart. Alternatively, space them 9-10+ feet apart for gaps between plants.
