Tricolor Superba Camellia Care

As you prepare an area in your garden to place your Camellias be sure it meets the plants sunlight requirements. The Camellia Superba prefers filtered to partial sunlight and when provided will lead to the healthiest blooms and foliage.

The Camellia Superba, once established, is drought tolerant! Until it has become established you are going to want to water 2-3 time per week. During the second growing season decrease water to 1-2 times per week. Only during times to extreme heat and drought will your Tricolor Superba require supplementary watering.

It addition to heat and drought resistance they are also quite hardy! You will notice that once established you will have no issues down to 0° in USDA Zones 7 - 9.

Plant in rich, acidic soil with good drainage for best results. In addition to good soil, apply 3-4 inches of composted manure yearly to keep your soil healthy and full of organic matter. If you choose to fertilize do so in early spring with an acidic plant fertilizer to keep your camellia happy and healthy. To protect the roots of your plant be sure to add a few inches to mulch around the base.
