About Loblolly Pine Tree

The Loblolly Pine tree is a tall growing coniferous evergreen that can be found in more temperate regions of the United States. Loblolly pines are fasting growing trees that mature to between 60 ft. to 80 ft. tall with a spread of 25 ft. – 35 ft. W.

Because of it’s quick growth rate, in its early stages of growth it can make a great screen before it starts shedding lower branches. It features attractive cinnamon brown bark that scales from the trunk and branches. Loblolly pines have a dark green color to their evergreen needles that are about 2 in. to 4 in. length. As the tree matures it provides shelter for birds. In the early fall they produce reddish-brown pine cones.

The seeds of the pine are a favorite snack of squirrels and chipmunks. This tree is a treasure for the wildlife in your area. This pine tree is hardy in USDA Zones 6-9 and can tolerate most soils. Plant in full sun for best results. It works well planted in mass or as a feature. Water regularly after planting.

Loblolly Pine Tree Care

  • Hardy from USDA Zones 7-9.
  • Plant in Full Sun to Part Shade for best results.
  • Loblolly pine trees are tolerant of most soil types, even clay.
  • Water 2-3 times per week after planting. This will help it to develop deep roots and allow it to support rapid growth.
  • Fertilize new plantings in early spring with a balanced nitrogen-rich fertilizer to promote new growth.

How to Plant:

  1. Dig a hole three times the width of the root ball of your plant. This will make it easier for the roots to spread out.
  2. Mix your native soil with gardening soil to provide extra nutrients, this step isn’t 100% necessary, but it certainly doesn’t hurt.
  3. Back fill the hole with the soil mixture and top with 3-4 inches of mulch to help retain moisture.
  4. Soak the tree with the hose afterward to hydrate the plant and help all of the soil and mulch get situated.

River Birch Tree Spacing Recommendations

Loblolly Pines do well as feature plants. They need 30+ feet between plantings. These trees should be spaced to allow them to mature and show off their wonderful forms.

Disclaimers:

If your tree is over 46″ inches tall at the time of shipping, we will have to trim it to fit into our boxes.

Customers Outside of the Southeastern United States: Shipping these trees over long distances during the Summer is not recommended, please wait to order during Fall to Early Spring for best results.
