Description
Description
The Buttered Rum Heucherella from the Southern Living Plant Collection is an unbelievable helping of decadent, rich color for any landscape or garden! This perennial features caramel-colored, maple-like foliage from spring till late summer. In the fall, the cool weather burnishes the leaves to a lovely rose red. This makes a perfect complement to fall-planted containers.
In late spring, this selection produces petite and white bell-shaped flowers that extend from thin stalks above the leaves. Therefore, it creates a dynamic new aspect of interest for your garden!
This Heucherella grows into a medium-sized mound, ideal for landscapes of any size. Furthermore, it only reaches 12" H x 12" W. So maintenance is essentially completely unnecessary.
It's notably hardy and tolerant of hot and humid summers. Additionally, it's disease and pest resistant.
Use the 'Buttered Rum' Heucherella as an accent, border, or container plant. Otherwise, plant them in large groups as a groundcover mass planting.
The Southern Living Plant Collection features several other dynamite varieties, including the Tapestry Heucherella and the Alabama Sunrise Heucherella.
'Buttered Rum' Heucherella Care
This perennial is hardy from USDA Zones 4-9. In most zones, it will die back in winter and return with new growth in spring.
Plant in Part Shade to Shade for best results. (We tend to recommend more on the part shade unless you are in cooler zones Ex: 4-6)
Water 3-4 times per week during the first growing season. In the second growing season, provide supplementary water in times of extreme heat and drought.
The 'Buttered Rum' Heucherella prefers garden soil with good drainage for best results.
Perennials rarely need supplemental fertilizer. However, apply 3-4 inches of compost around the plant yearly to provide nutrients to keep the plant happy and healthy.
