The Blue Star Juniper is a colorful groundcover that is sure to be an unexpected star of you garden year-round! It responds well to extreme fluctuations in temperatures and with a mounding yet compact size and slow growth rate the Blue Star is perfect for smaller gardens when used as a groundcover or as mass plantings in larger landscapes. This small yet attractive beauty will tolerate poor and rocky soil, drought and urban conditions. A fully mature plant will reach 2-3″ in height and width when planted in the ideal location.
Plant this juniper tree in full to part sun and in any soil that drains well. These are shrubs that are very adaptable and easy to maintain. Neutral to acidic soils are ideal so if you want the healthiest possible plant, it may be worth considering keeping a close eye on the pH levels.
Naturally it forms an unruly shape, but it can be pruned if you are looking for a more uniform appearance. In the spring, along with removing dead or dying branches, you can pinch off new growth before it fully develops.
For a faster groundcover space your Blue Star Juniper 2.5 – 3 feet apart. Otherwise, plant them 4 – 5+ feet apart to form a slower growing cover.
